Getting it started

Published by directhit11 at 3:55 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

I decided to start a blog to keep myself honest and make sure I’m playing my best poker and making good overall decisions.  As is I’m a micro limit player on FTP under the name DirectHit11.  My past stats speak for themselves, but since I don’t have any I’ll have to do the summarizing.  I’ve put deposits into multiple accounts and have never really done too well, always playing stay even or losing poker.  My last deposit was going well until I just got fed up near the end of the school year and took out all but $10 just in case I hit that urge later on (yes I know this is a miniscule amount).  When the summer hit I decided to start playing a little bit.  It started with a 10NL cash game.  It went okay and I pulled it up to $20.  From here I played two at the same time and worked it up to $30.  Now whenever I’ve had any success to speak of it has been via $5 sng’s.  I thought I’d take a shot.  I ended up winning playing what I think to be a pretty well thought out style for those limits.  I took that money and turned it into about $136 over the next month, though there were definite swings in my winnings.  Then I decided to withdrawal (I know it sounds crazy, even to me).

I chose to withdrawal because my fiancee and I are getting married in a year.  We have very little money and I’m kinda figuring that any little bit will help and I don’t need a horrible downswing helping to take away the little money I’ve built up.  So I took out $75.  This only left me with $61.  Hey, at least I know I have money in the bank and I’m playing on profit.  The problem is that I know all about bankroll management and I would prefer to play on the conservative side of it, hence where my problem comes in.  I want to build a bankroll, but I also have to take money out to save pretty frequently and until I hit something like $200 I can’t feel comfortable about my bankroll.  I wish I knew the best way to pull everything off that I want, but I think with my current situation it will be hard.

Just yesterday I was playing some sng’s and like anybody else, I hit a downswing.  I felt I was still playing well, but the standard stuff of AA and KK losing on preflop allins is bound to happen.  I’m currently at $35 and still hoping to be able to boost this up, though I know there could be a downswing ahead that could put me out.  With just about 6 buyins (fee included) I know I will have problems.

This blog will hopefully give me some sort of support to achieve what I want and that is to start to move up and hell, even make it to comfortable $10 sng’s.  I hope I can receive comments along the way from others, but most of all I hope I can just look back at these entries and see where I’ve been and use that to motivate me.  Off to the tables.
